"The Wonder of Birth & Death remind us of the Mystery of the Natural World" ~ Dr D. Early, BS2024

Kaitiakitanga means guardianship or protector of the land

Do you love the natural world, enjoy traveling to beautiful, healthy places and want local communities and others after you to be able to continue to also experience similar? What can you do to nurture and regenerate nature?

Before you travel here, have you taken the Tiaki Promise? Tiaki is a Māori word that loosely translates as to care and to protect. Tiaki is found in important concepts such as kaitiakitanga, which means guardianship or protector of the land.

I come to the land with respect for the people who have, do and will live here. My own broad nurturing strategy to address my environmental footprint, includes:

-off-grid living

-solar powered energy

-spring water use

-use of local, handmade soaps

-combing creativity and conservation

-volunteering for local and international conservation programs

Have you taken the Tiaki Promise to care for our people, place and culture?.

In 2023 I participated in the first Ngā Niho Taniwha Wānanga organized by Recreation Aotearoa.  This event aimed to enhance our understanding of Māori culture and Mātauranga Māori within outdoor recreation. You can watch the video here.
